Camping Gear

Camping gear refers to the tools and supplies needed for a camping trip. The type and length of the camping trip will define the style of camping gear needed for the stay. The starter list for camping gear will begin with a shelter, food supply, water supply and clothing. If the trip will involve a vehicle, the weight of these camping gear items will not be taken into consideration. If the trip involves backpacking to the camping spot, the camping gear will need to be lightweight and durable. Essential camping gear also includes a cell phone, solar charger, first aid supplies and water treatment chemicals.

Specialized camping gear is required for each season, most predominantly the peak summer and winter months. During the summer, additional camping gear may include cold storage for food, bug repellant, sunscreen, extra lightweight clothing and a larger water supply. The tent used needs to protect from the sun's UV rays. The winter months, on the contrary, require a tent that retains heat. While the cold storage of food is not a problem, clothing needs to be heavier and more protective. Thermal underclothing and socks should also be included in the camping gear.

Camping used to mean living outdoors without the luxuries of home. Today, there is no need to leave behind these luxuries as camping gear has grown to include outdoor heated showers, portable toilets, biodegradable toilet paper and heat and eat meals. Tents are no longer simple canvas sheets held up by poles. A camping home complete with bedrooms, eating area, kitchen and outdoor screened porch are inexpensive and comfortable. Sleeping bags have been tossed to the way side and replaced with soft, inflatable mattresses with camping gear sheet sets and supportive foam toppers. Camping gear should always include the necessities, but sometimes it is nice to include some comforts from home, as well.
