Tent Camping 101:

Ahh, the great outdoors.  Generations of people have enjoyed getting away from modern conveniences and “roughing it” by going tent camping.  Tent camping gives a person the feeling of being in sync with nature.  There are a variety of comfort items you can bring too if you like the idea of tent camping but don’t want to leave all of the comforts of home-at home.  Tent camping usually involves sleeping bags and/or air mattresses and some kind of a light so you can see your way around camp after dark.  There are kerosene lamps and also battery operated lamps from which to choose.  Taking along some cooking utensils, pots and pans is always a good idea when tent camping.  Cooking over a fire is one of the joys of tent camping so brush up on some camp cooking skills to feed your hungry group.

Tent camping is convenient because it is much cheaper than other methods of camping, such as hauling a trailer.  It also requires a lot less space.  Tent camping is allowed and encouraged in state parks and other areas.  Tent camping is also the “green” alternative to convenience camping.  You are using no electricity and for the most part, getting along by and with nature.  Plan the tent camping toward the people.  If there are those that hate hot weather, spring and fall tent camping is best.  Just be sure to pack extra blankets to keep off the chill.  Tent camping can be fun for an individual, family or group.  Children almost always enjoy tent camping as it gives them a sense of adventure.  Be sure to check regulations if planning to do tent camping in a state park.  There may be fire and other regulations that need to be adhered to.  Other than that, tent camping is all about having fun.
